Uzbekistan has the complete textile chain within its borders: cotton, spinning, weaving, finishing and garment making. That allows short lines and gives a grip on origin, provided you record it properly. Alongside it, an electrical and furniture industry is emerging that is becoming interesting for European buyers.
In recent years the country has invested heavily in modernising factories and in removing the criticism of working conditions in the cotton harvest. That does not mean you can rely on certificates alone.
What to watch: chain transparency is the conversation. Origin and working conditions must be demonstrably arranged, with inspection before shipment, not with a declaration afterwards.
